how can i stop my new leather sandals rubbing?

I really want to wear them but it's very painful, any tips on how to wear them in with minimal pain?

I always use Vaseline, I rub the affected area (on the shoe) with Vaseline and no sore feet. Very similar to the olive oil trick.
